A Visit to the Ruhstaller Beer Taproom

This past weekend I made a trip to Sacramento to visit the Ruhstaller Beer taproom, one of our favorite beers that we carry at Eat.Drink.Americano! This small hole-in-the-wall place may look like an ordinary office building from the outside, but once you step down into the taproom you'll feel surprised as to why bars and other beer companies haven't thought of this before. The only way I knew exactly where to go was the subtle Ruhstaller signage of the little boy's face marking the entrance.

When entering the taproom you'll see displays discussing Ruhstaller's history to the left, as directly in front of you is the taproom with casual seating and an entertainment room for visitors. Even though they only sell beer at the taproom, the taproom has a welcoming environment for people to bring their entire families over to have a place to hang out Thursday - Saturday.

My favorite feature of the Ruhstaller taproom was seeing their beer bottle displays; I love that they have unique labels for each type of beer they make. There's even a beer bottle shelf that acts as a room separator between the taproom and entertainment room (with comfy seating and a pool table)! It made me reminiscient of our wine bottle chandelier we have at Eat.Drink.Americano... maybe we'll have to work on a beer bottle display to add to the restaurant ;)

After looking around the taproom my friend and I had 2 flights of beers consisting of the Gilt Edge Golden Lager that we carry at Eat.Drink.Americano as well as their other year around beers 1881 and CAPT, and decided to try all of their experimental beers they had on tap! It was fun tasting the variety and getting something new that Ruhstaller is working on for production before it's official. If you're ever in Sacramento, the Ruhstaller Brewery is a great place to visit!

Ruhstaller Taproom Hours

Thursday - Saturday: 3 PM - 9 PM

Located at:

630 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814

Hope everyone's having a great week!

FARM 2 FORK: Ruhstaller Beer

Last week I had the pleasure of taking a stroll out on the Ruhstaller Yard & Farm located near Sacramento, CA. Here Ruhstaller has a sweet set up on their farm that allows visitors to come by on the weekends for beer tasting and provide a space for visitors to hang out and enjoy some farm-to-fork beer!

Here's a shot from the front of the yard with the farm behind the large tractor and wooden structures.

They were in the process of picking their last harvest last week!

Here's a shot from the back, there's quite a lot of bees and wasps so be sure to wear the right type of clothing if you plan on visiting! But it's safe enough to sit on the hay bales under the shade to enjoy some craft brew and hang out!

Ruhstaller beer is one of our customer favorite's at Eat.Drink.Americano and we were so glad to visit the farm! They also have a tap house located in Midtown Sacramento on J Street... We will be paying a visit over there next week, so stay tuned!

Until next time Ruhstaller... for now we'll enjoy a cold craft beer at Eat.Drink.Americano.

For people who are new to Eat.Drink.Americano, you should know that although we enjoy serving all-American dishes, we also enjoy providing dishes that also suit our vegetarians / vegans. Our ingredients are all locally sourced & organic make each meal fresh just for you!

After being around Eat.Drink.Americano all summer I've come to find that many of our veggie lovers are a huge fan of our Wedge salad. Our wedge salad contains a wedge of butter lettuce, pickled red onions, cherry tomato, applewood smoked bacon, gorganzola, house croutons & housemade herb dressing.

I paired the wedge salad with the chili soup we serve on Thursdays and it was DELICIOUS! If you try the wedge salad be sure to tag us in your photos with #EatDrinkAmericano!

Arts District Local Art Markets | #ArtsDistrict

THE ARTS DISTRICT MARKETS

If you're a fellow jewelry lover, vintage picker or just simply love exploring the Arts District, the Flea Market and Farmer's Market are great places for you to check out!

The Arts District Flea Market

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Arts District hosts a local flea market near Urth Cafe. The market holds around 30 vendors each day and is open from 11 AM - 7 PM. The Flea Market is a great place to scope out some unique hand made items and neat vintage pieces, while meeting vendors local to the area!

I really appreciate how much time and effort vendors take into making each of their booth's special and customer friendly so shopper's don't feel shy when browsing all of the different merchandise. This market is primarily focused on women's clothes, jewelry and accessories, however there are men's clothing, vintage knick knacks and art booths also at this market.

The Arts District Farmers Market

The Farmers Market still offers shoppers a selection of hand made and local goods, however they also provide some delicious gourmet food and fresh produce at the market as well! This market takes place 5-9 PM every Thursday night in the Arts District about 4 blocks from Eat.Drink.Americano as one is heading towards Little Tokyo.

The Farmer's Market is a little more low key and encourages shoppers to browse around, grab some food and hang out in the Arts District for the evening. This market has produce in one area, surrounded by gourmet ready made food and local art vendors. In the center they always set up an eating area so shoppers can also sit and listen to the live music that often plays at the market.

Hope to catch you at the next one!

Sizzlin Oxtail Sliders | #EatDrinkAmericano

Dinner time is the time to indulge! It's the meal at the end of the day where you can give yourself some time to bite into a savory meal. One of my favorite dinners at Eat.Drink.Americano is our oxtail sliders!

I love the arugula and oxtail meat combination in a sandwich. These bite sized sliders are more filling than you'd know and is delicious with a small cole slaw salad on the side.

I always enjoy going with a friend and splitting the two sliders and another dish so we can try a few different things off the menu.

Hope to see you here soon!

Boba Places | #ArtsDistrict

There's two AMAZING boba places in the Arts District right next to Eat.Drink.Americano, and I admit, every time after I go to eat in the Arts District I always stop at one of these places for dessert afterwards!

1. OZERO Tea & Desserts

I stumbled upon this place while walking past Angel City Brewery into Little Tokyo and instantly fell in love with their Tea Floats that they sell. Their tea floats is your choice of tea or milk tea topped with frothy milk and a scoop of vanilla or matcha green tea ice cream, Mmmm! So good. You can get their drinks with or without boba, but of course I always go for the boba added!

2. Urth Cafe

So we all know Urth Cafe has some great organic food, but what I really go there for is their green tea blended boba drink. The best part about their green tea boba drinks is getting it sweetened with different flavors (I always get coconut). Whenever I indulge in a blended green tea I feel like I'm drinking a dessert! AND, if I have extra room in my stomach I love enjoying their matcha green tea tiramisu cake. They're the perfect portion size for a 2 person dessert, or a little snack for now and a snack for later... ;)

Hope this inspired you to try some new dessert / boba places in the Arts District, let me know if you've tried anywhere else in the area!

Pastrami Please | #EatDrinkAmericano

So everyone seems to love the sandwiches at Eat.Drink.Americano, but sometimes I feel the Pastrami Flatbread is overlooked while maintaining all the essential ingredients to a tasty New York Style Pastrami sandwich with mushrooms.

The Pastrami flatbread looks smaller than it appears, once consumed you'll leave full and satisfied. This flatbread is packed with butter lettuce, mushrooms, organic tomatoes, pastrami & mozzarella. Next time you stop in for dinner be sure to give this flatbread a try!

hope to see you soon!

Chowder Fridays | #EatDrinkAmericano

One of my favorite seasonal soups is the Clam Chowder and lately it's been spot on! I've been ordering it every chance I get... Here are some of my meal pictures from the past couple of weeks!

Dipping bread in our soups is one of my favorite things to do... so you can bet I may have dipped my Italian Sub Sandwich in there a few times. Delicious!

Eat.Drink.Americano's clam chowder is delicious and thinner than most creamy & thick clam chowders out there like Boundin SF. The clams & potatoes and cut to the perfect proportions making each bite just right.

Cups are $4.95 & bowls are $5.95

Be sure to stop by on Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy a bowl or cup of our Clam Chowder soup, it's definitely one of my favorites and one of the best clam chowders I've tasted in California!

until next time...

Seasonal Soup Specials | #EatDrinkAmericano

The best thing about Eat.Drink.Americano soups is that every day there's something different and each week the chef's prepare the soup to perfection with fresh ingredients.

The Chicken Tomatillo soup is a Wednesday meat special offering a unique twist off of the traditional Chicken Noodle Soup recipe made from tomatillos. Tomatillos are a green Husk tomato that are often used to make salsa verde!

My favorite part about getting our soups is dipping our toasted artisan bread into it. Mmmm.

On Thursdays Eat.Drink.Americano serves up the Chili and Cauliflower (for our non-meat eaters). I went for dinner this past Thursday with my cousin and ordered and extra side of bread to share our soups. Perfection.

My all time favorite soup is our Clam Chowder! Every Friday customers are in for a treat with our creamy clam chowder served in a shallow bowl with bread. I enjoy my soup alone or with an italian sub on the side!

Let me know which of these seasonal soups are your favorites!

Weekly Favorite Art in the Arts District

Outside of the restaurant, I often find it refreshing to walk around the Arts District and Little Tokyo to take in the neighborhood and note the subtle changes happening. I love that the Arts District is thriving with creative and open minded individuals which helped the Arts District develop into an estuary of artists. Here are some photos I snapped on some of my previous walks near the Angel City Brewery, be sure to peep more photos on our Instagram @eatdrinkamericano!

This by far is one of the most impressive pieces in the Arts District, right under the mysterious eyes on the large building housing Angel City Brewery (ACB) is a smaller skull head mural that can be easily overlooked due to the fencing surrounding ACB. I love that although skulls are generally dark and scary, this face carries a smile giving you a less frightened feeling when looking at it.

This mural by AntiGirl is a neighborhood favorite for the city pride it evokes and simplicity of it's beauty. A previous Los Angeles glitter heart was painted over in the Arts District, yet this one remains on the side brick wall of the Angel City Brewery.

There are so many quirky things popping up in the Arts District, you'll never know what you'll stumble upon or what will inspire you!

Always remember to look up...

Talk to you soon!

Tori

Wednesday Lunch

Lunch is my favorite meals of the day, firstly, because I am always awake for it, secondly, because we have some of the best lunches at Eat.Drink.Americano! Every day fresh, organic vegetables are prepared for your perfect all-around-American meal.

If you're a sprouts lover, our Green Valley Baguette is a great option to try! A vegetarian sandwich option filled with hummus, avocado, organic tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, garden cucumber & lemon juice in a premium baguette.

Or if salad is more your speed we have plenty to try...

My personal Wednesday lunch favorites are soup & a flatbread. I love the Garden Fresh Pizza because of the fresh juicy tomatoes paired with an organic fresh basil leaf on each pizza slice making a delicious pizza topping pair. The mozzarella tastes so rich combined with the house made balsamic reduction on top.

I grabbed a cup of iced Stumptown Coffee for a mid afternoon pick-me-up, however Americano offers lemonade, craft beers & wines as well to enjoy.

Our Chicken Tomafillo Soup is a weekly soup special that has everyone coming back for more! I tried it for the first time Wednesday, and let's just say it won't be the last time I'm getting it...

Ta ta for now!

Sundays off at Urth Cafe

Just down One Santa Fe, the first Urth Cafe is hustling and bustlin' in the Arts District. I'm a sucker for tea and boba and this is one of the best places to try it! They also serve organic dishes that pair perfectly if you're visiting for lunch or dinner.

My favorite part about ordering their flatbreads is the tasty toppings they offer you, they're definitely worth seeking out. Each meal may look deceivingly small, but my stomach said otherwise. These meals are quite feeling, but leave you feeling satisfied after each meal.

Urth Cafe is located on S Hewitt Street a block away from the Arts District Flea Market that takes place every Monday - Sunday! Be sure to explore the Arts District and let us know if there's anything we should talk about!
